Random thoughts to readers: Because we are writing about events in a daily "journal" format, and not in real time, it may seem that we are still traveling throughout southern Africa. In fact, we arrived in Shakawe, Botswana during the evening of Monday, May 29 and moved into the house that we will occupy for the next two years (photos of the interior and exterior accompany this post). We are settling into the house and Jeff is becoming acquainted with the staff and with his new job, so posting to the blog still will be sporadic for the next couple of weeks. We hope to be caught up and in real time again soon.

We are still learning through trial and error about the process of posting photos, so you may from time to time notice that entries previously posted and read have been changed by the addition of photos, and/or of slight changes or corrections to the text, either to explain the photos or because place name spellings and factual information were incorrect. We hope you will not mind occasionally re-reading entries for additions. Also, if you wish to enlarge any of the photos for better viewing, just click on the photo as you would to open a document, and it will enlarge.

It is out of sequence, but we thought our friends in Missouri would enjoy this photo, taken on the road between Knysna and George in the RSA. We drove the road several times between May 4 and May 8 while visiting our friend John Nurse in the intensive care unit in the hospital at George. During the third trip we noticed this sign and building.
